Sustainability

Environment

I studied Environmental Science at university, and since my student days (a long time ago!) I’ve been involved in numerous nature conservation projects across the UK and beyond. It’s great to work for a company whose green ethics are so closely aligned with my own.

At Jaluch, we have enormous respect for the natural world, and believe that the protection of the environment is the responsibility of every employee. Our environmental policy reflects this. In practice it really is just common sense… switch it off if you’re not using it… recycle… buy fair trade goods… use paper from sustainable forests… you get the idea!

We are always seeking ways to work smarter, and have a policy of minimising travel time wherever possible. Travel time to our clients has been reduced by developing small regional offices, and travel between offices has been virtually eliminated by introducing video conferencing. Not only does this help minimise our carbon footprint, but (we hope) it also helps team members maintain a happy and healthy worklife balance.

Community

One of the main reasons I was attracted to (and still enjoy!) Jaluch was the culture: sharing workload, offering support and valuing each other’s wellbeing are firmly at the top of our agenda.

Working within the community gives us the opportunity to take this zest for supporting others outside of the workplace. Every year, we proactively look to find ways to add something special to our communities; over the last year we have:

  • Held mock interviews with local secondary schools
  • Provided work experience opportunities
  • Donated a percentage of our annual profits to charity; we have supported children’s charities, cancer charities, and local sports and schools associations
  • Sponsored AFC Business, supporting the south coast business community
  • Taken part in the ‘Dorset Macmillan 100’ cycle ride, raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

We believe that being part of the community increases our awareness of social issues and enables us to make a difference to the lives of others. We are always looking for ideas and ways to enhance our presence in the community, so if you would like to make a suggestion please feel free to contact me!
