Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) MCIPD - A fully qualified member of the institute.
LCIPD - A Licentiate/part qualified non-graduate member.
FCIPD - Someone who is both qualified and has significant experience, plus an ability to fill in reams of paperwork in order to make the application to be upgraded.
10 years ago many employers did not require HR applicants to be CIPD qualified. Now, it appears most employers require this qualification. This does however leave a gap with some more mature HR professionals not having the necessary qualification enabling them to move on to other positions, despite having vast and valuable experience. Don't insist on the qualification when recruiting unless you really want a qualified applicant rather than an experienced one. Consider making it desirable rather than required when recruiting.
