If an organisation feels that clarification is needed on matters presented in a claim to tribunal, it may ask for a preliminary hearing. Preliminary hearings can be used for example, to seek medical reports in the case of employees claiming disability discrimination, or be used to probe whether for example an employee has brought a claim within time. Any organisation seeking a preliminary hearing should write to the Chairman of the Tribunals requesting one.
