At Jaluch, with our commercial hat on, we know that it is inevitable that in many organisations a review of what is and is not in the contract and handbook is way down the list of priorities. But as many of you will have experienced, the minute you have a complex staffing issue, that is when an up to date and well thought through contract and handbook will save you literally hours and hours of management time and possibly thousands of pounds as well. So why not aim to move a document review at least one peg up the priority ladder?
Given how fast some areas of the law and best practice change, we recommend your essential employment documents (i.e. contract and employment handbook) are reviewed once a year. And if you have no time to do it, then please ask us as this is too important a set of documents not to keep up to date and in order. We can guarantee to do it both cheaper and faster than your average employment solicitor!
We will:
- write your documents in plain English
- tailor your documents to reflect the culture of your organisation
We will not:
- blind you with clauses that you cannot explain to your staff
- include nonsensical clauses or clauses that are totally irrelevant to the way your business operates
- copyright our documents or charge you each time you issue them
If Jaluch can support you with either a simple half page policy on dress code at work, or with 50 ten or twenty page policies on every subject under the sun, please do give us a call and you might be surprised how quickly these things that seem to have been sat in your in tray for so long can be completed!
And in terms of other documentation, we recommend a review every couple of years to ensure documents are up to date and in line with how you want to manage your staff. When reviewing the documents you have, you could consider: performance review forms; application forms; induction packs; exit interview forms; holiday request forms; flexible working and parental leave request forms; self certification forms; job descriptions; notification of impending retirement; maternity letters etc.

In Your Words...
"Goodness me, I had a proper look at our handbook today and I have to say I am really excited at how it is looking! I have spoken with our printer who says it will look really good as an A5 booklet and I agree. Quite sad isn't it when someone can get so excited about an employee handbook!"
