Writing a Cover Letter or Email |
A covering letter / email is a further opportunity to tailor your application more closely to the position that you are applying for and draw further attention to your unique selling points.
A well-drafted covering letter /email should make its reader want to carry on reading. It should demonstrate that you understand all the requirements of the position that you are applying for and lead the reader to your CV. A covering letter/email should explain:
- Why you want to work in that area, industry or for that Company
- How your skills, experience and achievements match the vacancy
It is vital that your covering letter or email reflects you and contains your words and your selling points.
Covering letters / emails are the first piece of information an employer reads and uses to make a judgement about you. Therefore, it is essential that you know how to write a letter/email that will assist you in achieving your goal.
As with your CV and application form, it is vital that you give the letter a lot of thought and again be prepared to spend a considerable amount of time drafting and redrafting it.
